XL4005 DC-DC Step-Down Buck Converter Module – Adjustable Voltage Regulator, Up to 5A High-Current Power Supply

The XL4005 step-down buck converter module is an adjustable DC-to-DC voltage regulator designed to reduce a higher DC input voltage to a lower, stable DC output voltage. It is useful for electronics projects, battery-powered systems, automotive accessories, LED circuits, robotics and adjustable power-supply applications.

The module is based on the XL4005 switching regulator IC, which operates at a fixed switching frequency of approximately 300kHz and supports output-current capability up to 5A under suitable operating and thermal conditions. The XL4005 IC also includes current limiting, thermal shutdown and output short-circuit protection.

An onboard multi-turn potentiometer allows the output voltage to be adjusted according to the connected load’s requirements. The input voltage must always be higher than the selected output voltage because this is a buck, or step-down, converter. It cannot increase voltage.

Common module versions are sold with an input range of approximately 4V to 38V DC, adjustable output from approximately 1.25V to 36V, output capability up to 5A and maximum efficiency claims of up to 96%. Exact module ratings can vary with PCB design, inductor, diode, capacitors and cooling.

For reliable continuous operation, use adequate ventilation and avoid operating the module continuously at its maximum advertised current without additional cooling. Output current also depends on the input-output voltage difference, connected load, ambient temperature, wiring quality and heat dissipation.
