The MAX98357A I2S Mono Class-D Audio Amplifier Module is a compact digital audio amplifier designed to convert I2S digital audio signals directly into high-quality amplified mono audio. Powered by the MAX98357A DAC + Class-D amplifier IC, this module eliminates the need for an external DAC, making it ideal for embedded audio applications.

Operating from 2.5V to 5.5V, the module can deliver up to 3W output power when paired with a 4Ω speaker and powered at 5V. It features a default gain of 9dB and automatically combines stereo audio into (L+R)/2 mono output, providing clear and efficient sound reproduction.

The MAX98357A is widely used with ESP32, Raspberry Pi, ESP8266 (with external I2S support), STM32, Arduino-compatible boards, and other microcontrollers that support the I2S digital audio interface. Thanks to its high efficiency Class-D design, it produces minimal heat and requires very few external components.
