The ACS712 5A Current Sensor Module is a Hall-effect based current sensing module designed to measure both AC and DC current up to ±5A. It converts current flowing through the sensor into a proportional analog voltage that can be easily read by microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and other development boards.
The module is built around the ACS712ELC-5A sensor IC, which provides accurate current measurement with electrical isolation between the sensing path and signal output. This makes it suitable for applications requiring safe current monitoring, protection circuits, and energy measurement systems.
The sensor works by detecting the magnetic field generated by current flowing through its internal copper conduction path. The internal Hall sensor converts this magnetic field into an analog voltage output proportional to the current. The module operates from a single 5V supply and produces an analog output centered around 2.5V when no current is flowing.
With a sensitivity of 100mV/A, the ACS712 module is capable of detecting current changes with good accuracy. The onboard FILTER pin allows bandwidth adjustment, enabling users to reduce noise and improve signal stability depending on the application.
