The 4-channel bidirectional logic level converter module is designed to safely connect digital devices that operate at different logic voltages. It is commonly used to interface 3.3V microcontrollers with 5V sensors, modules and development boards.

The module provides four independent signal channels. Each channel can translate a low-voltage digital signal to a higher logic level and also translate a higher-voltage signal back to the lower level. This bidirectional operation makes it especially useful for two-way communication interfaces.

The common version of this module uses BSS138 N-channel MOSFETs with onboard pull-up resistors. Separate high-voltage and low-voltage reference pins allow the board to determine the required logic level on each side.

For a typical 3.3V-to-5V application, connect the LV pin to 3.3V, the HV pin to 5V, and connect both systems to a common ground. The signal pins on the LV side are then matched with their corresponding channels on the HV side.

The converter is suitable for digital communication signals such as I²C, UART, 1-Wire and other relatively low-speed logic interfaces. Some suppliers also list it for SPI, but performance at higher signal speeds depends on the module’s pull-up resistors, wiring length and connected devices.

This module is widely used when connecting 5V Arduino boards to 3.3V devices such as ESP32, ESP8266, Raspberry Pi, STM32 modules, displays and sensors. It helps prevent unsuitable 5V logic signals from being applied directly to voltage-sensitive 3.3V GPIO pins.
